Is it stupid to go to a hockey game by yourself?
I told my parents, (im 18 by the way) that i am thinking of sometime this month going to see a hockey game. Well my parents turned to me and asked with who? (knowing that none of my friends are hockey fans). So i said probably just me to relax and enjoy the game. Well then they said im not going and that it is stupid to go by myself.
So my question is how many of you guys go to a game every once and while by yourself. Do you think its stupid?

It’s kinda like going out to eat by yourself. I’ve gone to some games alone, got myself some pizza and beer, and focused on the game. In between periods some one in the smoking section would always chat with me. Usualy games are a social thing too, so just put on the blinders and watch the game. There’s allways hot women to look at too! Ya that sounded kinda creepy! LOL
No. I went cross-country to watch hockey in all six NHL arenas and sat, more or less, by myself twice in Alberta, and once in Montreal (hard to get side-by-side tickets for that particular game, so we switched seats on the other side of the arena during the intermission). Would I have had more fun sitting with a friend? Yeah, but no one could afford such a trip. Did I still have fun? Damn straight. I even golf by myself every once in a while. It’s a good chance to be with your own thoughts either way and meet new people.
i dont think its stupid at all. i do it every once in a while. its just relaxing sitting down and watching a game when you have nothing to do. nothing wrong with that
Well if your going to your favorite teams home stadium your bound to end up striking up a conversation with fellow fans
A lot of the people I play hockey with sit in the same section, but there have been times I have wanted to be by myself or mingle with a different crowd ..
Bottom line no I don’t think it’s stupid, especially if your friends aren’t hockey fans, they probably wouldn’t appreciate the game as much as you would.
Steve does have a good point though. Many people better appreciate hockey after seeing it live.
It is funner to go to a game with someone, but it is still fun to go by yourself. Try asking one of your friends to go, maybe they will like it after they watch a game.
No it isn’t stupid. I have gone to many games by myself. It isn’t a big deal. You will find people to chat with and ave a good time . Go and have fun at the game .
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Who cares how other people feel about it? You paid to get in and that makes them no better than you. If people who don’t want go feel it is wrong, then let them think its wrong.
Our society places too much emphasis on doing things with others. Sometimes it is nice to get away from those needy, clingy type of acquaintances so that you can enjoy those things you wish to enjoy. The good thing is that you aren’t the co-dependent type who needs someone else around you to enjoy whats going on.
The more attention you pay to how things seem to others the more you’ll be unable to enjoy what you want to do. Don’t snuff out the spontaneity that life has to offer. Its a free world.
I think they’re saying that because of the ticket price and because they don’t have the guts to do it themselves. They would say life is kind of lost if you don’t have someone to share it with – we are social beings after all – But I would retort that because of their lack of encouragement I’m a complete social misfit. Then I would move out. It isn’t stupid, nothing you want to do is stupid – especially if it means enjoying YOUR life.
I’ve been to quite a few games by myself. It isn’t stupid, it is just not as much fun as when you go with someone else.
im 18 too, and i went by myself 3 times now i know many people who go by them self more often then others think.

Like everyone else has said it is not stupid to go by yourself. I’ve gone several times alone and you will find out that your not the only one. And your never really alone at the game, many people there to chat it up with if you wish to.
So go and enjoy the game.

You are 18, why do you need your parents permission? you are 18 and you can do what you pretty much want.
It is not stupid, go for it. if you enjoy going to games you might as well go.
I do agree with your parents on one thing. I am not sure what arena you are speaking about, but maybe they are uncomfortable with the arena, area, or being around ton of drunk people. I don’t think it is stupid, I think you are an adult and can do what you wish, but please keep in mind that occasional parents will say something is “stupid” because they are avoid the real issue at hand.
