Classic Game Room HD reviews NHL Hockey (’91) for the Sega Genesis. NHL Hockey from EA is the first EA Hockey game from Electronic Arts which was released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. This is my favorite sports game and plays fast and furious with barely any realism at all! Play as the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Winnipeg Jets, Hartford Whalers, Minnesota North Stars or Quebec Nordiques. NHL 91 is the best of the best with fast, responsive and simple controls. While NHL 10 from EA is a technical marvel and a masterpiece of multiplayer fun, for good old school brawling and scoring mayhem go with the older Sega Genesis NHL Hockey from 1991. This CGR review of NHL Hockey from EA has gameplay from EA Hockey aka NHL Hockey 91 (or NHL 91) for Megadrive and Genesis.
They play NHL 94 in Swingers, but the head bleeding doesn’t occur in that one. It only occurs in NHL Hockey and maybe NHLPA 93.

@gamezky Yeah Nintendo got their first taste of NHL hockey with NHL PA 93 which I have and its a great game.
I had nintendo at the time. One of my friends got this game and I was so jealous I wanted to cry. It was so far ahead of any other hockey game it was sick!

WHERE ARE THE ONE-TIMERS? I used to work my friend with the one-timer over and ever. He would get pissed as there was NO defense against the perfectly set one-timer!!!!!
the version they’re playing in the movie ’swingers’ is the game after this one, nhlpa 93. in the movie they say they took fighting out but thats not true, just written for the script.

Possibly the most fun game I’ve ever played. Only problem was my Megadrive was one of a bad batch that played some games in black and white. This game was one of em but I still loved it. Two player co-op was cool — one of you take out the goalie, the other score.

HAHAHAHAHA i used to do what this guy does, after the end of each goal, no matter if my team or the opponents team scores, and at the end of every period i always check/hit the opponents hockey players! hahaha my friends’ always got pissed at me for doing so! good times

Ah, that takes me back. I also had ‘94 for sega GAME GEAR, lmao, even more simplistic. There’s this one move, going downscreen you jam your player against the left side boards right above the blue line – and then shoot, goes in every time. I would spam that move and win games 20 – 0!!!
