And it also does it with arms – where my left handed friend pitch left and hit right at baseball and I do both sides… The point is that you must not interfer with what comes naturally to you.

Well, Canadians and NHL player are not reference of truth – surely good ideas, but they could be wrong acting this way. It’s not logically valuable to claim this is right because they do it this way.

Besides, I am not a Russian, I am from the province of Quebec…

You know that I naturally chose to do skateboarding with my right leg in front? Yet, I am righty… My friend plays soccer and kicks with his left leg… and he is a righty.

Im just gonna put it this way. Do what the Canadians do. Wayne Gretzky is a left handed shot. Sidney Crosby, Sergei Fedorov, and Bobby Orr are also as well. Why is that?
The majority of the NHLers are left handed shots. I went the opposite to match what they did, and now I feel better as a left-handed person with a right handed shot. My 3 year old nephew is right handed. He picks up the end of the toy hockey stick with his right hand naturally. Im done explaining, but it isnt law either.

So, either I am outrageously too skillful and I can play and shoot very decently with my lesser side – which I really really doubt I am – or perhaps is it that your assumption doesn’t make sense?

You cannot both claim that it is better and that it doesn’t matter, yet, this is what you propose, considering that I am a right handed person playing right handed and playing it quite decently.

I do about any single thing you can think of as a right handed person except for one thing: skateboarding. Yet, I play as a right handed hockey player.

My hands are not amazing, but I can tell you that my left hand is far from being death and I got a pretty powerful and accurate shot. I could be your “right handed” blue line shooter anytime, however, I am not a lefty…

    … no

    @n0y0x
    Is that sarcastic?

  9. n0y0x says:

    thank you for clarifying that!

hahaha! plainly, your dominant hand is best used to control the entire stick rather than the middle of the stick. I found I had more variables of movment when I used my left hand since I am left handed. fyi.. the most in demand position in sports is the Left handed Pitcher in baseball. 2nd is the Right Handed Shot Defensemen in hockey. Ask yourself why is that?

  11. hockeyfan888akajoker says:

haha i can play with both right and left im ambidextrose lol its good for when im on hte weak shot end of the rink haha try it out it takes a long time to learn but i did it but not as accurate with my left shot =P

@BayFlow408 Hum no what the hell are you talking about?

This guy broke the Cardinal Rule of Hockey! He is suppose to be a left handed shot if he is right handed! I am left handed by nature. I started as a left handed shot. I noticed that my right hand on the end of my stick was dead while my left hand did all the work. Once I shifted to the right handed shot, I noticed that my stick was much more alive because my left hand was naturally more active holding the WHOLE stick. And stick handling became much easier and natural.

Good stuff on youtube. I just checked out a new trailer for The Keys to Learning Movement, a new DVD for 2010. I know this guy and he is awesome. Comes out in the spring.

  15. GueorguiJoukov says:

A right handed PLAYER has his blade forehand side set to his right. It means his left hand is on the top.

A right hand PERSON would usually tend to prefer to control the stick with his right hand and therefore player as a lefthanded PLAYER.

However, you are not compelt to place your dominant hand on the top and play at the opposite; you can as well play with your dominant hand down.

What is certain is that you should never interfer with your natural tendency while choosing your side.

  16. hkyplyr61 says:

Thats what I was taught. If you’re left handed you have your left hand at the top of the stick and vice versa.

  17. martkartmagee97 says:

righties have their right hand down further and their left hand up top because ur right hand generates the power

  18. shadowmorman says:

    left hand top for righties…

  19. furball411 says:

wait i thought if you are right handed you use the left side and vice versa. cause youre right hand will be on top of the stick. i mean most hockey players use the left side of the stick
