Legends of Hockey – Bobby Clarke
![]() |
Robert Earle Clarke, OC (born August 13, 1949 in Flin Flon, Manitoba), better known as Bobby Clarke, is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey centre who played his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Philadelphia Flyers. During his 15 season playing career, he led the Flyers to two Stanley Cups and was awarded the Hart Trophy as league MVP three times. A 1987 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Clarke was rated number 23 on The Hockey News’ list of The Top 100 NHL …

I can’t believe how good Bobby Clarke was
as you will be a pens fan until death as will i be a flyers fan. it is good to find a true fan of the pens. cause most of the ones i run into are the bandwagon ones and only have started to like within the past 3-4 years and they are really arrogant.
same here that we can end on an agreement. adios
@irishman89
True too. The death and loss of Michel Briere is also another reason why we didn’t have good players like you guys did (Clarke, Parent, Barber, etc.). Still Philly does have a STRONG fanbase.
I’m glad we can end this on the right foot. But I will ALWAYS be a Pittsburgh Penguins fan ’til death.
well another partial reason is that you guys had low fan attendance and not making money.
no that was the assistant coach
It was due to bankruptcy. In ‘75, due to the fact that creditors demanded paybacks of debt. Our ownership had to padlock the office, however if it wasn’t for the DeBartelow Family, and their patriarch, Edward J. DeBartelow, we would’ve lost the hockey team.
1998-99 – After the piss-poor ownership of Howard Baldwin and Morris Belzberg, Baldwin asked the Pittsburgh team to defer their salaries. Combined with other pressures, we had to declare bankruptcy AGAIN. And Mario saved us, again.
then how come pittsburgh almost lost the franchise? if you give me a legit answer and some kind of fact verifying your statement i will leave you alone forever.
Those two weren’t the only players that caused more Pens fans to come to the Igloo. True your fanbase is one of the biggest in the NHL, and so is Pittsburgh’s. Think about all the other Pens players other than Lemieux, such as Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens, Tom Barrasso, Joe Mullen, and Larry Murphy.
this is between pitt and philly, not chicago. our city has one of the best fan bases in all of sports. i am just saying we have always have had fans come to the flyers game. but in pitts case people came out to support the team after you got crosby and malkin,
You started the conversation with attendance. And I was COMPARING your attendance with Chicago’s! Well yeah, Mario saved the franchise TWICE. No OTHER player in sports history could do what Mario EVER did, which was to take ownership of a sports team. Don’t forget that we had one of the best GMs of all time, Craig Patrick as well.
what do the blackhawks and this conversation? i didnt mean when he was playing you dumbass. i mean when mario became owner and save your franchise from moving. are you freakin retarded.
Bullshit, eh? We STILL had a fairly good attendance record in the 60s. Even with Mario, he still won two Art Ross Trophies (88 AND 89). If you guys didn’t beat us up in 89, we would’ve kicked your ass. Even when we had Rob Brown AND Zarly Zalapski, we were a better team than you were. To my best knowledge we were the SIXTH best team that year. Still, Pittsburgh may not have a GREAT attendance, but like I said, you want to see PERFECT attendance, the Blackhawks had the best attendance in 2009.
Like he is the only person to hurt somebody? Come on every team in the league had had somebody like that sometime in the franchises history .
Yea that is a bunch of bullshit. Before Mario came along and saved you guys. Pitt almost lost the franchise b/c of poor fan attendance. Then Mario came along save the Franchise then you guys had some horrible years and managed to get Crosby and Malkin. Then people started to pay attention b/c your guys started to win and fan attendance went up. It is pretty sad i know more about your franchise then you do.
@irishman89
You’re full of shit. I’ve been a Pens fan since I was 8. I STILL will stick with them. Admit it, we have one of the BEST ownerships in hockey, Mario of course. OK we weren’t hot for 24 years, but we had stars like Rick Kehoe and Jean Pronovost. Fairweather fans? Good GOD you have got to be shitting me! We STILL stick together when Pittsburgh’s down no matter what. If you guys had better coaching, MAYBE you guys wouldn’t suck so bad. You want to see GOOD attendance, try Chicago.
why the hell would i ever root for the pens. that statement tells me you are a fairweather fan. i root for my team even when they suck. and i personally feel bad for pens fan cause i know that they are a bunch if fairweather fans. we always have fans in the seat even if we suck unlike you guys. go fuck yourself.
What a load of crap! Bobby Clark the biggest dick to ever lace up a pair of skates. Always hiding behind his bitches like the cowardly piece of shit he is. They couldn’t rattle the big bad Bruins or the New York Islanders back then either. The best thing that could happen to the Flyers even to this day would be to get rid of this asshole once and for all. Maybe they might even get to the 2nd round of playoffs.
@irishman89
Fuck you. And you jackholes call yourselves a good market when you haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 35 years. 0_0 BOOOOORING!!! Told you you guys aren’t going to win the Stanley Cup this year. So far, you’ve gotten your ass kicked three times by the Pens. GO CROSBY!! So fuck you. YOU get a fucking life and root for a better team than these goddamn douchebags from Philly. Last time I’m stinging at you, EVER.
damn i thought you died. i guess the little pussy has came out of the shadows to harass us flyers fans. get a fucking life douchbag.
They keep saying what a good hockey player he was, but they forgot to mention, that he was bigger asshole than good player…
You would be hard pressed to find another organization in the four major pro sports that has faced stronger opposition in the finals than the Philadelphia Flyers.
1974- Boston Bruins- Bobby Orr etc.
1975- Buffalo Sabres
1976- Montral Canadiens Dynasty
1980- N.Y. Islanders Dynasty
1985- Edmonton Oilers Dynasty
1987- Edmonton Oilers Dynasty
1997- Detroit Red Wings
They have also had the best goalie in NHL history in their division to get past for over a decade. Brodeur.
“i was able to make lots of decisions”. so did you make the decision to break kharlamov’s ankle, you piece of shit?
You too? Bitching about my opinions? It’s a way to make fun of Philly. It’s also to describe how the Flyers have reacted when they lost to Pittsburgh in the playoffs twice in a row, and of how they never won Stanley Cups in the Finals they were in after ‘75, and of course of how Eric Lindros got his career shortened. I told everyone I’m done here, so I don’t want to hear it. I’m not going into another E-War argument with Philthy fans.
“Cryers fans”…?
Big Poppa C Money is a useless faggot who comes on the Internet to try and hide the fact that his dick is smaller than that of an asian man who just survived a nuclear bombing by insulting people on the internet and saying things he’ll never do. He likes to play WOW all day and jerk off 15 times in a row because no woman would ever look at him naked and not vomit all over herslef due to the fact that he has the body of an obese 50 year old paraplegic man.
